They had previously maintained their primary residence in New York City. Trump keeps a section of the estate private for his family's personal use. Trump lived with his family in Jamaica Estates, an affluent suburban neighborhood in Queens, New York. The house, a six-bedroom neo-Tudor, was built in 1940 by his father Fred Trump.
According to an ongoing analysis by NBC News, President Donald Trump has now spent more than a year's worth of days at a Trump property since taking office. Upon departing the White House in January 2021, Trump transported a large volume of presidential records to Mar-a-Lago, despite storage of such materials being subject to the Presidential Records Act. Seeking to preserve presidential communications and correspondence with world leaders, the National Archives and Records Administration arranged to retrieve 15 boxes of material from Mar-a-Lago in January 2022.

The Mar-a-Lago Crowd, an informal group organized by President Trump which oversaw many of the activities of the Department of Veterans Affairs during the Trump administration, frequently met at the club. Palm Beach, described as Billionaire’s Row, has also been host to the likes of John F. Kennedy, who visited his own family’s property on the island during the winter months. Trump holds private quarters on the property in a separate, closed-off area. It has been labeled the second-largest mansion in the state of Florida.

There are two villas, in addition to pool cabanas and an estate manager's house, on the five-acre estate. While the main house of the Bedminster, New Jersey, property is a private club open to members (at a reported cost of $350,000), the Trump family owns cottages on the property. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner got married there in 2009, and they won an application to expand their cottage by 2,200 square feet in 2015. The search is part of a federal investigation into whether Trump illegally removed documents when he left office in January 2021 after losing the presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden.

Mar-a-Lago, a Jazz Age estate with Spanish-Moorish architecture, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1980. Surely, such wealth is enough for spending summers at lavish properties and for access to five-star experiences and treatments all over the world. At the very least, it was enough for the couple to purchase a $3.2 million mansion with five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, according to the Miami Herald.
From 2008 to 2009, Trump owned a neighboring house, an 11-bedroom Greek Revival mansion built in 1981. It was previously a residence of Gabonese president Omar Bongo, who died in office in 2009. On October 3, 2006, Trump raised a 20-by-30-foot (6.1 by 9.1 m) American flag on an 80-foot flagpole at Mar-a-Lago. Town zoning officials asked Trump to adhere to town zoning codes that limit flagpoles to a height of 42 feet . This dispute led the town council of Palm Beach to charge Trump $1,250 for every day the flag stayed up.

Donald Trump's first visit to Mar-a-Lago as president of the United States took place on the weekend of February 3–6, 2017. On Saturday, he hosted the Diamond Red Cross Ball at Mar-a-Lago Club, while on Sunday, he watched Super Bowl LI at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. On the weekend of February 10–12, 2017, President Trump and his wife Melania hosted Japanese prime minister Shinzō Abe and his wife. This was the first use of Mar-a-Lago to entertain an international leader, a task that has traditionally been held in the White House. On this occasion one of President Trump's first international security crises happened, that of a North Korean missile launch. After purchasing the estate, Trump did extensive renovations, adding a 20,000-square-foot ballroom.

As part of the settlement, Trump leased 215 acres from the county, on which he built the 18-hole Trump International Golf Club. In July 2010, Trump filed another lawsuit aiming to stop the airport from constructing a second commercial runway. The 2020 book The Grifter's Club had access to old membership records from the club, which confirmed that Jeffrey Epstein had been a member until 2007, and reveals that he was expelled "after Epstein harassed the daughter of a member", according to another Mar-a-Lago member. The book alleges that the girl was a teenager at the time, and confirms that Epstein is listed in club membership records as "Account closed 10/07", in contrast to cases of members resignations, where "Resigned" is normally noted. Membership at the Mar-a-Lago Club required a $200,000 initiation fee.
The longtime New Yorker will now make Palm Beach his permanent home as his presidency comes to an end. Moving trucks were seen Monday arriving at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida as he embraces his final day in office. On Monday 8th August, the FBI is said to have entered Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and seized documents relating to an inquiry into missing White House records. Trump bought the property in 1985 from cereals heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. Mrs Post donated the property to the US Government in 1973 for use as a winter escape, but it was returned to the Post Foundation in 1981 following worries over high maintenance costs and security issues. However, they are rumored to be unwelcome at a members-only country club on the island.
Trump eventually dropped his lawsuit over the flag, and in exchange the town waived its fines. As part of a court-ordered mediation, Trump was allowed to file for a permit and keep a pole that was both 10 feet (3.0 m) shorter than the original pole and located on a different spot on his lawn. The agreement also required him to donate $100,000 to veterans' charities, and resulted in a change to town ordinances allowing out-of-town club members. After President Trump's fourth weekend visit on March 3–5, 2017, questions were raised about the access his paying club members have to him and his entourage. A number of Democratic senators asked the President to release visitor logs of Mar-a-Lago and as well as a list of the members of the private club. Subsequently, the "Mar-a-Lago Act" was introduced, legislation requiring publication of logs of visitors at the White House and other places where the president conducts business.
Trump instead turned the estate into a private club in 1994, fighting off what he considered to be excessive restrictions. Mar-a-Lago was built for businesswoman and socialite Marjorie Merriweather Post, former owner of General Foods Corporation, between the years 1924 to 1927. The estate boasts a Beach Club, which extends across two acres of direct access to a private beach, and includes a 132-foot by 50-foot pool, whirlpool, and beachfront bistro. There's also a 27-hole golf course and a fitness centre to keep the Trumps busy. The last recorded update for the 1.26-acre lot’s pools, jacuzzi and patio was in 1994 when the home was built, according to Miami-Dade property records, although there has been unspecified “remodeling,” according to the listing. "The gravest offense in constitutional terms is the attempt to overthrow a presidential election and bypass the constitutional order," committee member Jamie Raskin, D-Md., told reporters last week.
It comes as no surprise that Mar-a-Lago is where the president has spent most of his 378 days at a personal property . Nevertheless, he has used the private club for official business, such as when he hosted President Xi Jinping of China in 2017 for a two-day summit. From the Spanish for sea to lake) is a resort and national historic landmark in Palm Beach, Florida, owned by former U.S. president Donald Trump.
In 1985, Donald Trump purchased the property for $10 million including some of the original furnishings. Post died in 1973, and her will gifted the ocean-to-lake estate to the U.S. government for use as a winter White House. But the cost of maintenance was too expensive so the government deeded it back to the family. When cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post built the 17 acre estate Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida in 1924, she envisioned the property as a future retreat for U.S. presidents. (Barron, his 14-year-old son, reportedly has a floor all to himself.) His offices were also in the building, so living and working at the same address was not new to him when he moved into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The White House decor might be a bit subdued though, since the penthouse was modeled after the Palace of Versailles, with rococo decor and a profuse amount of gold.

However, Trump visited more than 30 times during his tenure in the White House, breaking his rule with more than 130 nights worth of stays. The letter suggested the town "avoid an embarrassing situation" for the former president and requested them to inform Trump he can not live there full time. At the time, the latter party reportedly initiated legal action to prevent them from moving back. After her death, the estate was ultimately given to the Marjorie Merriweather Post Foundation by the federal government. In December 2020, neighbors of Mar-a-Lago delivered a demand letter to the town of Palm Beach, stating that the town should notify Trump that he cannot use the estate as his residence.

"Subsidiary to all of that are a whole host of statutory offenses, which support the gravity and magnitude of that violent assault on America." The Justice Department and Attorney General Merrick Garland have said nothing about the search, not even confirming that federal agents were at Trump's property. Former federal prosecutors said that by remaining silent, the department is playing by rules intended to ensure fair treatment for targets of investigations. Also, "Mar-a-Lago is the only private club world-wide to attain the prestigious 6-Star Diamond Award from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, and is considered to be one of the world’s most sought after private clubs." A villa on the premises is reserved for Trump's exclusive use, and a 500-square-foot, two-story balcony and porch were added to it in 2017. In 2017, the place was designated as Trump's third presidential residence.
Post spent US$7 million (equivalent to $109 million in 2021), and it was finished in 1927. The Mar-a-Lago club itself has hosted a long list of celebrities, including concerts by the likes of Celine Dion. Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley spent their honeymoon at the resort as well.
